We always do that with people younger than us. We try to protect them from the fate we think will result but we are working off different contexts. Twelve year old me and a preteen today have different resources and outlets. There is so much they can learn about themselves through community and more democratized media outlets. They’re better prepared to fight harmful or problematic imagery than we ever were.

Somehow though, I don’t want to assume that young folk are strong enough anymore than they should assume I have my shit together.
