Turns Out, Vacation is for Resting
Too much planning misses the point
I’ve been on vacation for the last two weeks and while I started out initially blocking out time for rest, I made lot of plans for myself. I imagined how much I’d read and how many articles would come to completion over the time span. I would have goodies for hungry readers scheduled for months!
The universe had news for me and I was forced to relent. In these two weeks, three things spun me off my carefully plotted course:
1. Plans had to change
I laid out events for my two weeks off that rapidly shifted once the first day came. I had wanted to paint, clean the terrace, and clear out my trunk. I managed one out of three along with the usual household chores. That meant pushing events to another day. Add to that, I was still working my per diem job in the evenings, which created a terminus to the day’s freedom.
We planned to redo the kids’ room, which not only included painting, but buying and building new furniture. My husband was skeptical we’d be able to pull it all off, but I was determined. My elder child had taken school calls and been ashamed of her room. It was thrown together and barely manageable. I agreed. We would eliminate furniture with their new raised beds and gain more floor space. I let the kids choose the…
