That’s hard to do in the moment. We already know we’re perceived as “one of the good ones”, the exception, which is why people get comfortable. Defending someone else gets construed as being aligned with their values which may not be true, but the individual has the right to their own agency. We don’t have to approve. Doing the work of advocating for another’s freedom, maintaining your privacy, and giving the bigger lesson that numbers don’t count for anyone is a lot.
